why is poh
shaving his head |
In
April 2004, the world came to a standstill for Poh,
when he received
the news that his daughter, Callie at age 6, was dignosed with neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer.
|
Callie
need to go through chemotherapy and all the blood tests, scans,
x-ray, medication.....and the 7 hours surgery to remove the tumour.
PAED Oncology Ward at Sarawak General Hospital is
like second home to them as they go through the six months treatment in
the hospital. |
Praise
God, Callie now is a cancer SURVIVOR, thanks to our faithful God, all
the medical team, Sarawak Children's Cancer Society (SCCS) and friends
for their valuable support and encouragement.
|
Since
2006, Poh have been active in serving SCCS in
bringing hope to the children with cancer and their families who come
from all over Sarawak as well as from Sabah and Indonesia. Currently he
is holding the position of Honorary Treasurer.
|
So why
is Poh shaving his head? Through his involvement with SCCS for the past
years, Poh sees the increasing need to "Help Kids Fight Cancer" and one
best way is to be with them and to provide a safe environment of
emotional support. He's shaving his head as a symbolic act to boost the
self-esteem of the courageous kids who undergo the cancer treatment and
to help SCCS in achieving their target of raising MYR 1,000,000 (USD
320,000) for the construction of
new SCCS building which will provide better care for the children who
have to travel from afar to Kuching for their treatment. This new
building will be ther "home away from home".

what
is GoBald campaign |
Go
Bald 2 is a campaign organized by
Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society which invites members of the public
to shave
their heads on 16 May 2010 to show to
children with
cancer and their families that they are not alone in their fight
against
cancer. |
Gold
Bald is the
only head-shaving campaign in Sarawak
that
serves to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer. Every shaven
head
represents an understanding by an individual of the ordeals that a
child with
cancer is subjected to. Gold Bald also
provides opportunity to garner support from the public in the form of
monetary
pledging. Gold Bald then
brings a
two-fold contribution: raising awareness and funds for SCCS
beneficiaries. |
